Method Hires Martin Harkin as Head of Global Business Development

NEW YORK: Method Communications has hired Martin Harkin as SVP and Global Head of Business Development.

Harkin began in the newly created role on August 9, reporting to Method co-founder and CEO David Parkinson.

Harkin will manage technology clients from its base in New York and coordinate global business development opportunities between US-based Method and its sister agencies under the VCCP Business umbrella: Harvard, London; and Sling & Stone, based in Sydney, Australia, with offices in New Zealand, Singapore and Los Angeles.

Method, Harvard and Sling & Stone share 12 clients and have 250 technology, PR and marketing specialists worldwide across the three companies.

“This is where we see an opportunity to grow, as a collective, using these three agencies to release and present global affairs,” Parkinson said.

Harkin is also focused on building Method’s customer base on the East Coast.

“In my previous role, I did quite a bit of global commercial work, and I’ve seen an appetite for that grow tremendously over the last couple of years in terms of clients realizing that having a unified global agency working in the same kind of methods, ideologies, teams and familiarities make it much more effective for them,” Harkin said. “It drew me to the method, the overall look and how it’s a real target for the agency.”

Prior to joining Method, Harkin was practice leader for technology and e-commerce at Red Havas. He worked with the firm for eight years in its offices in New York, Sydney and London and left at the end of July.

Earlier in his career, Harkin worked at Haystac, part of the Dentsu Aegis network, as an amplification specialist. Previously, he was a reporter for The Irish News.

Sling & Stone also this week rolled out a specialized unit for US-based startups from its Los Angeles office.
