NC State Poole College of Management recently appointed Jonathan Bohlmann as interim head of the Department of Business Management. Bohlmann will replace Sebastian Heese, professor of supply chain management, who previously held the position.
Bohlmann joined Poole College in 2008 and focuses his research on innovation and product development, marketing strategy and team decision making. When it comes to innovation, Bohlmann tries to research both from a customer perspective and research the business and its innovation strategy. It has been published in top marketing journals including Marketing Review, Marketing scienceand the Marketing Research Journal.
“I think Jonathan will have an incredible impact,” said Frank Buckless, Stephen P. Zelnak Jr. Dean of Poole College. “He has worked in the business management department for the past two years to improve program outcomes and found ways to innovate inside and outside the classroom. Students have certainly benefited from his advocacy and I know the college will support him in this role as well.

In her new role, Bohlmann hopes to build on the momentum of the new marketing analytics program and promote business analytics more broadly throughout the department and the university. More importantly, he would like to define precisely what Poole can do to create better experiences for our amazing students.
Prior to academia, Bohlmann worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry designing advanced aircraft. He has managed several research and development projects related to materials innovations and product design optimization.
“The department has a great group of people and programs, so hopefully I can be a strong advocate for the great work they do as well,” Bohlmann said. “Sebastien [Heese] really got things going during the challenges of the past few years, and I’m glad we can bring back the Zone Coordinator team of Julie, Mark and Don to help keep things on a positive trajectory.
Bohlmann holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University as well as a Master of Business Administration from Texas Christian University. He also earned a doctorate in marketing from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1996.
