The Solano-Napa Small Business Development Center (SBDC) commemorates National SBDC Day on Wednesday with an impressive milestone – more than 1,700 businesses in Solano and Napa counties are now active and receiving business support.
National SBDC Day is celebrated annually on the third Wednesday in March. Established in 1976, Small Business Development Centers provide innovative tools and resources that help start-ups and small businesses succeed. From finance and business planning to marketing and e-commerce, local SBDC centers and their teams of business advisors strive to contribute to the overall success of small businesses.
The Solano-Napa SBDC is part of the Northern California SBDC Network, which in 2021 helped 22,869 small businesses, providing access to more than $625 million in capital and creating more than 10,200 jobs.
Locally, the impact of the SBDC resonates in Solano and Napa counties. Between 2020 and 2021, the Solano-Napa SBDC provided 1,670 businesses with 9,100 hours of one-on-one counseling.
Over $63 million in new capital was raised, with over $17 million in increased revenue. SBDC companies also said they created 475 jobs and opened 78 businesses in Solano and Napa.
“We know that only 50% of businesses survive for five years,” Solano-Napa SBDC Director Tim Murrill said. “Studies show that companies that receive business mentorship are 70% more likely to achieve this milestone. If you are not already an SBDC customer, we encourage you to consider how we can help your business maximize your success.
SBDC’s services are available free of charge to any business with less than 500 employees. In Solano and Napa, 98% of the business community would qualify for free individual counseling.
The SBDC also offers specialized consulting expertise in key industries, including food service, manufacturing, technology and government contracts.
