Holyoke Sporting Goods, a local sporting goods retailer, entered the Marketing Doctor Small Business $30,000 Ad Campaign Contest in the summer of 2021. This contest, with an initial value of $30,000, is increased to $40,000 through generous service donations from our partners, WWLP, WGGB, iHeart and Stand Out Truck, and is now valued at $52,500 due to the agency’s media buying tactics as well as support ongoing from our partners. Since announcing the winner in October 2021, Marketing Doctor has diligently analyzed the retail store’s business needs while creating a custom and creative advertising plan, and designing a dynamic new logo and modernized website,

For several months, the campaign has been the subject of several television and radio advertisements. The digital marketing campaigns included the theme “However, you choose your sweatshirt: SWISH, SWING, SWIM, SWAG”, which met Holyoke Sporting Goods’ business objectives.

The new website showcases Holyoke Sporting Goods, its product line, its commitment to the local community, its 94-year history, and its pride and passion for the surrounding region. It offers a clean design, easy navigation on mobile, tablet, and desktop, and helpful images for product display.

The collaboration between Marketing Doctor and Holyoke Sporting Goods will continue throughout the summer and culminate in the fall with advertising promotions at local schools and sports teams.

This competition, brought to you by Marketing Doctor, came at a time when many small businesses were working to recover from the pandemic. Marketing Doctor Founder and President Janet Casey recognized this challenge and knew she could make a difference for a local small business. Therefore, she created the contest to give back to her community. Due to his personal experience and successful growth and accomplishments in his own business, Casey wanted to share his company’s expertise and talent in paying for his success.

“I am thrilled to share that the value of the campaign is now $52,500+ thanks to additional generous donations from our local media partners! It was an absolute pleasure working with Betsy to promote this special local business,” said Casey.

“So grateful, it gave my business the boost I needed after COVID because we were in the dumps for quite a while. It was really lonely here; there was no sports. I will always be grateful,” said Betsy Frey, owner of Holyoke Sporting Goods. “I know the ad works. Several clients have come to tell me they’ve seen it, and they’re new people. I’m really amazed at the work done by the Marketing Doctor team.”
