Business Development Manager, Westchester Education UK & International – United Kingdom


Westchester Education UK and International is a division of Westchester Publishing Services UK Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westchester Publishing Services LLC, an employee-owned, 50+ year old US company and the preferred editorial and production services provider to over 350 publishers and content providers around the world.

To support and fuel our continued growth in the education sectors in the UK and overseas, we are looking for a Business Development Manager to help meet growing interest in our full suite of services for education publishers and edtech companies.

These services include content development, art, design, digital production, strategic planning, research, and training for education publishers and edtech companies.

Our typical projects include:

  • Print and digital design, illustration, composition and prepress project management
  • Teaching and assessment exercises for online platforms of edtech companies
  • Develop multi-grade, multi-component blended learning programs for instructional publishers and edtech companies
  • Content reviews to ensure diversity and inclusiveness
  • Development of curriculum-specific content and artwork in all subjects, for all ages, and in multiple international markets
  • Mapping international programs and filling gaps
  • Market research on the education sector in the UK and abroad
  • Advice on local UK and international market requirements to inform our clients’ market entry strategies

Job title: Business Development Manager, Westchester Education UK & International

Contract: Full time, permanent

Reports to: CEO Westchester Group UK

Location: Work from home with occasional travel to the UK

Main responsibilities and duties:

  • Mainly, to secure new customers and consolidate and develop business with existing customers
  • Work closely with the CEO and Managing Director of Westchester Education, UK and International, to provide high level insights into existing and potential new services
  • This contribution should be informed by proactive and thorough research on education industry trends and competitor activity, using publications such as THE and Education weekand participation in events such as BET, BESA Insight Days and the education day
  • Leverage existing industry knowledge and relationships with publishers and content providers to generate new leads
  • Plan and implement sales and marketing campaigns:
    • Lead qualification, including online and in-person engagement with potential customers to learn more about their needs
    • Collaborate with our marketing team on service messaging
    • Run lead reports from the Salesforce CRM system, selecting potential leads for marketing campaigns
    • Engage with individual prospects and deploy targeted marketing emails
    • Assemble proposals and price offers with the appropriate colleagues
  • Management of post-closing customers:
    • Work with new clients to define and review initial workflow and project requirements
    • Account-Based Marketing / Customer Relationship Building
    • Manage after-sales queries impacting revenue with key accounts
  • Manage a pool of existing accounts and prospects
  • In collaboration with colleagues, plan and implement online marketing and social media activities to include website updates, Linkedin posts, blogs and podcasts
  • Work with colleagues to participate in rights/licensing campaigns for Westchester’s ELT and Banded Readers series

Candidate Profile:

This position will focus on securing new clients and consolidating and developing existing clients. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the educational content space in the UK and internationally, relationships with key decision makers in these markets and a minimum of three years of business-to-business sales experience. Skills and experience required:

  • Passionate about education, fully committed to the UK and international education sector and aware of its emerging needs in a rapidly changing blended learning environment
  • Growth mindset for personal, organizational and industry change
  • Demonstrable ability to strategize and anticipate client needs, then transform the plan and execute that strategy to achieve successful results
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken, and basic editing skills
  • Ability to prioritize key accounts and opportunities, and provide accurate sales forecasts
  • Demonstrable understanding of DEI principles, with a commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion in educational publishing and edtech content development
  • Experience with commonly used sales tools including and MS Office suite


  • Base salary of £42,500 to £47,500 per annum depending on skills and experience
  • Variable Commission Plan
